FOODSHED DOUBLES SALES AGAIN IN 2023!

Foodshed was born on the eve of the Covid pandemic and has seen dramatic growth over our four years of operation: in 2023 we topped $700K and in 2024, we are planning for over $1.5 million in sales. That's a whole lot of regeneratively and organically grown produce!  But the number we are most proud of is our 3:1 "equitable distro" ratio.  More than 2 out of 3 Foodshed customers live in historically underserved neighborhoods across San Diego County.

A primary reason we are able to achieve these outcomes is a whole lot of behind the scenes "systems change" work by our customers, partners and staff...as well as a significant investment in our internal operations.  It isn't the most romantic part of our work, but having solid recordkeeping allows us to reflect on our impact, plan for bigger investments and facilitate cooperative ownership.  We believe this strong foundation can contribute to the development of a broader "regenerative" or "circular" economy in our region and beyond.

To get nerdy on the principles of a regenerative economy, check out the Capital Institute and chat us up on the idea at CSA pick up, during a cooking class or at the Saturday Market (or, if you aren't a local...initiate a conversation with a thoughtful Instagram comment).  We would love to talk with you about the underlying purpose, impact and trajectory of our model.

So, at the beginning of a brand new fiscal year....we'd like to raise a toast to our fearless spreadsheet navigators:  KK and Monica and to our advisors at Kitchen Table Consultants and Tuttle Coop Law Center.  Here's to an investment in a strong financial infrastructure and the community wealth building it will help us accomplish!
